INVITATION AND CALL FOR
ABSTRACTS
The Organizing and Executive Committee of the Indian Phytopathological Society (NZ) extends cordial invitation to attend National Symposium on "Plant Pathology in Human Welfare" and Annual Meeting of IPS (NZ) at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, Chatha, Jammu (J&K UT) on 9-10th January, 2024.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Presence of plant pathogens play a pivotal role in causing economic losses to the crops, threatens the ecological
balance and thus significantly affects human
welfare. Throughout history, crop diseases have been of great concern as they
have contributed to several historic famines by damaging food production. Crop diseases pose a threat to food security at
household, national and global levels by jeopardizing food availability and
affordability. Addressing the effects of plant diseases on human welfare, plant
pathology as a research and development discipline provides proactive measures
by understanding plant diseases, their detection and diagnosis and developing
effective strategies for their management. Plant pathology contributes to
sustainable agriculture and reliable food supply by developing disease
resistant crops through use of biotechnology and providing a strong regulatory
framework with effective surveillance and monitoring systems. Mushrooms, the edible fungi are high value crops
globally appreciated for their nutritional and nutraceutical value. Their
cultivation is an effective bio conversion technology of transforming farm
residues and woods into potentially valuable resources and could also be an important
part of sustainable agriculture and forestry and thus immensely contributing to
human welfare.
