We are pleased to invite you to participate in the
national conference “Plant Health for Food Security: Threats and Promises”,
to be held during February 1-3, 2024 at ICAR-Indian Institute of
Sugarcane Research (IISR), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The event is organized
by ICAR-IISR in collaboration with Indian Phytopathological Society and is
aimed at bringing together researchers, practitioners, students, farmers, NGOs,
and agriculturists from across the country to discuss the current advancements,
challenges, and opportunities in Plant Pathology. As organizing team, we
believe that your expertise and experience in the field of Plant Pathology will
be valuable contributions to the conference. Your presence will also provide opportunities
for networking, collaboration, and engagement with participants, industry
partners, and stakeholders. The conference will feature keynote speeches,
plenary sessions, oral presentations, and poster sessions on important issues
of Plant Pathology, including emerging plant diseases, host plant resistance, innovative
diagnostic tools, novel disease management strategies, climate change impacts,
and sustainable agriculture. We believe this event will provide a platform for

Sample Abstract Draft genome of Wilsonomyces carpophilus causing shot hole disease of stone fruits using Illumina HiSeq and PacBio NGS platforms Mahiya Farooq, Sehla K., T.A. Sofi, Asha Nabi, H. Sumaira, Bilal A. Padder and Mehraj Ul Din Shah* Plant Virology and Molecular Pathology Laboratory, Division of Plant Pathology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shalimar, Srinagar-190025, Jammu and Kashmir, India *Email: mehraj547@rediffmail.com Anecrotrophic plant pathogenic fungus Wilsonomyces carpophilus causing shot hole disease in stone fruits such as peach, plum, apricot and cherry, and almonds among the nut crops is one of the most devastating plant pathogens. The disease management failures using fungicides has been reported many time and no information on the host-pathogen interaction is available. Therefore, we examined the pathogen morphology, pathology, and genomics. The pathogen isolates collected from five different hosts showed difference in their morphology, however, the probability value (p=0.29) suggests insignificant difference in pathogenicity with respective to different hosts. Here, we reported the draft genome of W. carpophilus for the first time based on hybrid assembly of Illumina HiSeq and PacBio NGS platforms and found genome size of 29.9 megabase submitted to GenBank, NCBI (Accession number: PRJNA791904). A total of 10,901 protein-coding genes have been predicted, including heterokaryon incompatibility genes, cytochrome-p450 genes, kinases, sugar transporters etc. In the genome assembly, we found 2851 simple sequence repeats (SSRs). The most prominent proteins showing the necrotrophic lifestyle of the W. carpophilus pathogen were hydrolases, polysaccharide-degrading enzymes, esterolytic, lipolytic, and proteolytic enzymes, which accounted for 225 released proteins. We also discovered tRNAs, rRNAs, and pseudogenes in the pathogen genome. |
Important Note: In case, the acknowledgement of registration and submission of abstract(s) are not received through mail, please check the SPAM folder of the mail. The acceptance of the abstract can also be downloaded from the online portal of the conference website after login using ID & Password created by the delegates.
Guidelines for poster preparation
Poster preparation: The title card at the top should include in addition to title (in capitals), name(s) of the author(s) and their affiliation. The text of the poster may be divided into abstract, introduction/background mentioning objective, methodology, results and summary/ conclusions.
Size: The size of the poster should be 1.50 m (height) and 0.90 m width (5ft height x 3ft width). In Microsoft PowerPoint, you could set the size as follows: Go to Design tab, then Slide Size followed by Page Setup. (Alternatively, you could use the template provided by IPS; see the attachment).
Font size: The lettering for the title should be 72 points in bold capital while that of name of the authors in 60 points and affiliation in 40 points italics. The headings (for example, Abstract, introduction/background, methodology, results, and summary/conclusion) should be in 50 points bold Sentence case. All the text in the body should be minimum 35 points normal. Table headings and figure legends should be 28 points.
Representation Style: Participants should not use more text rather they should use graphs, tables, charts, images to make their posters more interactive and attractive.
Figure: Figure or photos or schematic diagrams should be of good quality (at least 300 dpi).

APS Travel Sponsorship for Ph.D. Students
APS Travel Sponsorship for students has been instituted by the IPS. The purpose of this award is to encourage Plant Pathology students pursuing a doctoral degree in India, who are members of IPS, to attend the American Phytopathological Society (APS) Annual Meeting or other APS approved meetings, if deemed appropriate by the IPS and APS Foundation Board. The award has been established with contributions from plant pathologists of Indian origin. Students will compete at the zonal and national level competitions in India and the awardee will be selected from the top-ranking student presenters at the national level competitions.
The terms and conditions for participating in APS
meeting are as follows:
