The Conference is being jointly organized by Indian Phytopathological Society-Eastern Zone, Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research), Bhubaneswar, and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar to deliberate upon the current plant health issues and mitigation strategies. The Conference would provide an effective platform for discussion, deliberations and dialogues by academicians, scientists, students, industry players, policy makers in government departments, and other stake holders including the farmers and non-governmental organisations, on current plant health scenario. The Organizing Committee invites you to the National Conference to share your academic and research expertise and experience in the field of Plant Pathology and Plant Health Management. The Committee believes that your inputs and valuable contributions, and your engagement with participants, industry partners, farmers, and other stakeholders would be of immense significance for the formulation of effective strategies and recommendations during the Conference. The conference will have keynote speeches, lead presentations, oral presentations, and poster sessions on important issues pertaining to research on plant health and technology driven management strategies.

INTRODUCTION

Eastern Region of India is witnessing a new green revolution where in the farmers and agripreneurs are scouting for new solutions and advanced technologies for increasing the quality and quantity of crop production. Plant Protection is the most important aspect of crop production and there is an increasing demand for quality plant protection solutions which are technologically driven and environmentally sustainable. In recent years, many new institutions have been established in the region and it has broadened the based of plant protection research in the eastern region. Development of new crop health challenges due to changing climate and cropping patten has thrown up many challenges across the country and the Eastern India is not an exception to it. Indian Phytopathological Society-Eastern Zone has taken up this task to organise National Conference on Novel Strategies and Advances in Crop Health Management: Towards Technology-driven Eco-friendly Solutions to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha during Dec 12-14, 2023, to discuss the regional plant protection challenges in national perspective. The conference would provide an ideal platform for the scientists, policymakers, corporate sector, agripreneurs, farmers, and students to discuss current research advancements and to formulate future strategies on plant disease management to ensure higher productivity and sustainability. CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR ORAL/ POSTER PRESENTATION

Submission of abstract for oral/poster presentation Abstract (250-300 words excluding, title, name, and affiliation; font size 12, Times new roman, 1.5 spacing) for the conference should be submitted through online mode only (https://conference.ipsdis.org/eastern/bhubaneswar). Please contact the organizing secretary (Email: ipsez2023@gmail.com ) if you have any difficulty in online abstract submission and registration, or don't receive confirmation about the receipt of your abstract within 10 days. The Technical Coordination Committee reserves the right to edit/reject any abstracts if required. Abstract(s) will be printed only after receiving the registration fee. Please underline and bold the presenter's name and mention the presenting author's email ID. The poster format will be available online on the IPS website. Abstracts of Oral paper and Poster paper will be published in a Book of Abstracts (Invited, Oral & Poster).


e-Posters

The poster should be in English. Maximum e-poster size: 120 cm wide and 60 cm high. It must be submitted in PDF format. The Poster No. (Acceptance No.) Title, Authors’ names and affiliation including email and Mobile number of Presenting Author should be listed at the top on the poster. The poster should consist of Objective/s, Methods, Results and Discussion. The matter should be clear, simple and self-explanatory. All Figures and Tables must have headings, and labelled axes and legends. All lettering should be legible from a distance of 3 m. A format of the same is given below. Guidelines for posters

  • It is advised strictly to keep the title of the poster same as in the submitted abstract.
  • Title of the abstract – Size of the lettering may be 54 Arial bold preferably
  • Title should be followed by Name(s) of the Author(s) and Affiliation(s) – size preferably 42 Arial
  • Please put your Abstract ID on the top right corner of the poster
  • Sub headings – Size of the lettering may be 40 Arial preferably.
  •  It is recommended to use 30 Arial size font style for the content of the poster.  Kindly use sentence case for general content
  • Text and presentation should be in ENGLISH only
  • Try to keep the text easy to read and concise.
  •  The poster should have a clear message, a logical layout and easy to comprehend.
  • Use short text in bullet points and avoid lengthy sentences.
  • Use only static images and do not embed any videos or animation in your poster.
  •  Try to utilize the space on your poster as creatively as you can to attract the audience and make sure that the images are easy to understand.

About the Venue

ABOUT CENTRAL HORTICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION (ICAR-IIHR), BHUBANESWAR

Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-IIHR), Bhubaneswar is the regional research station of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru. The Station was established during year 1992. Since then, the Station has made many significant contributions to the plant health management in the horticultural crops of the regions. Some of the significant achievements include development of region specific IPDM module against disease of mango, fruit fly management in mango and cucurbit crops, development of bacterial wilt resistant brinjal variety, development of white rust resistant amaranth lines, development of mango wash technology for removal of sooty blotch stains from affected mangoes. Core research has been carried out on characterization, diagnostics and management of major diseases of economic importance in the eastern region.

 

ABOUT ODISHA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (OUAT), BHUBANESWAR

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) was established in Bhubaneswar in year 1962. It is the second oldest agricultural university in the country. It is dedicated to agriculture related research, extension and education. The University has 11 constituent colleges. The University has separate wings for research, extension services and planning, monitoring & evaluation, etc. The University has strong research and extension base by with eight Zonal Research Stations, four Zonal Sub-stations, 7 Commodity Research Stations and 13 Adaptive Research Stations spread over the state/ along with 48 All India Coordinated Research Projects. Also, more than 41 National Agricultural Technology Projects are in operation.

Prof. M.J. Narasimhan Merit Academic Award – Zonal Contest for selection to National level contest

The East Zone Chapter would organize a contest among the zonal members during the Zonal Chapter's Meeting for preliminary selection of contestants during the National Conference on "Novel Strategies and Advances in Crop Health Management: Towards Technology-drivenEco-friendly Solutions" to be held in Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, Odisha during December 12-14, 2023. Only two names from each Zonal Chapter will be recommended by Zonal President for the final contest to be held during Annual Meeting of the Society during National Conference on Plant Health for Food Security: Threats and Promises February 1-3, 2024 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Predesh. The age limit for the contestant would be 35 years. The contestant will submit an abstract up to 250 words along with brief biodata to the Zonal President, Indian Phytopathological Society-Eastern Zone (ipsez2023@gmail.com).


The contestants must furnish the following certificate:

The awardee at National Level will receive a medal, and other contestants at national level will receive Commendation Certificate. The Society will publish the paper of awardee in Indian Phytopathology. The award recipient must submit full-length paper (as per IPS guidelines) for its publication in the journal Indian Phytopathology. There is no restriction of the age of co-author, if any.


Prof. M.J. Narasimhan Merit Academic Award contest shall be organized during Annual Meeting of the Society during National Conference on Plant Health for Food Security: Threats and Promises February 1-3, 2024 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.


APS TRAVEL SPONSORSHIP FOR PH.D. STUDENTS

American Phytopathological Society has offered the travel award to a Ph.D. student, who is member of IPS. Competitions among Ph.D. students in IPS-Northern region will be held during the symposium. Ph.D. students (EZ) are invited to participate in this contest in single or joint authorship. The purpose of the award is to encourage plant pathology students pursuing a doctoral degree in India and who are members of IPS to attend the APS annual meeting or APS sanctioned meeting if deemed appropriate by the Indian Phytopathologal Society and APS Foundation Board.


Guidelines

  • All contestants should be a member of IPS.
  • Abstracts prepared should be submitted online https://conference.ipsdis.org/eastern/Bhubaneswar on or before 15th November, 2023.
  • The contestants will have to give a brief Bio-data, the certificate furnishing the age proof, and proof of pursuing a Ph.D.
  • The award will be given to the best paper presented at the annual meeting of IPS.
  • In-service candidates are not eligible for the APS travel award.


BEST ORAL / POSTER PRESENTATION AWARD

Best Oral / Poster Presentation award will be given in each session.
